My Therapeutic Approach
My approach is based on Transactional Analysis ('TA') and a psychodynamic understanding of how early experiences shape the way we think, feel and relate. I bring TA’s respectful philosophy into the room, with its focus on autonomy and personal agency. Many clients find TA models clear and practical, and they often become genuine turning points in our sessions together.
My perspective is also shaped by my time working in the justice system as a court interpreter and as a volunteer adviser at Citizens Advice. I met people in very difficult situations, sometimes because of decisions they had made and sometimes because life had become unmanageable. In those roles I learnt to listen without judgement, which is now central to how I practise therapy. I also saw that change became possible when someone accepted responsibility for their next steps and had steady, attuned support. This forms the basis of how I work. Therapy is a shared process, and it works best when you are actively engaged, with me alongside you in a caring and thoughtful way. Over time, this is often where meaningful change, or the “magic” of therapy, can develop.
As a trained linguist, fluent in both English and Russian, I pay close attention to language and identity. I have experience working with bilingual clients who may find it easier to express themselves in one language rather than another.
